Hedges are the structure of a garden, and they show neglect fastest. Miss a season and the line goes, the base thins out, and the hedge gets taller than anyone wants to trim.
We trim on a schedule that suits the plant: formal hedges and topiary kept tight, shelter and driveway hedges cut back to a manageable height and width, and the trimmings taken away. For small trees we prune for shape and health, and where a hedge or shrub has had its day we remove it with our mini excavator and prepare the ground for what comes next.
